Akshat Ghiya grew up between two worlds that rarely meet. His father was a gemstone dealer based in Padua, Italy — supplying stones to the world's finest jewelry houses — and his mother a jewelry designer with roots in Jaipur, one of the oldest and most storied jewelry cities on earth. Ghiya attended boarding school in Switzerland, earned his degree at Northwestern University in Chicago, and then did something unusual: he moved back to Jaipur and committed to it entirely.
The brand he founded there, Tallin — a Sanskrit word meaning to become enamored to the point of madness — works entirely by hand. No CAD. No 3D printing. Twenty master artisans in a family-owned atelier in the old city's Johri Bazaar, where gemstone traders and goldsmiths have worked side by side for three centuries. The techniques are the same ones practiced there for generations. What Ghiya brings is a different eye: formed equally by the maximalism of Indian adornment and the disciplined elegance of Italian goldsmithing, the two pulling at each other in every piece.
The collections divide into Sharp Forms — geometric, Art Deco-inflected silhouettes with carved emeralds, onyx, and turquoise — and Gentle Forms, which feature polki (uncut) diamonds and organically shaped colored stones in floral and natural arrangements. Despite their opposing instincts, both lines share a commitment to stones chosen for their character: purple sapphires, fire opals, watermelon tourmalines, green turquoise. Ghiya calls it shiny color therapy. He is not wrong.
