The Poetry of Gold — Paris
The Designer
Sylvie Corbelin works from a small Parisian atelier and has spent three decades making jewelry that thinks. Her pieces draw on the iconography of antiquity — Greek myth, Egyptian symbol, medieval bestiary — and translate these sources through a sensibility that is unmistakably contemporary French. The past is not reproduced; it is reinterpreted, again and again, into something that could only exist now.
Her technique is as committed as her vision. Corbelin works primarily in granulation — the ancient Etruscan method of fusing tiny gold spheres onto a surface without solder, creating textures of extraordinary delicacy — alongside intricate repousse, hand-engraving, and patinaed gold finishes that give her pieces the presence of something centuries old. Yet they are entirely of the moment.
Corbelin's work is collected by those who understand that serious jewelry can also be poetic — that a pair of earrings can contain a world. Each piece is made in extremely limited numbers, many as singular objects.
At Cayen
"Sylvie Corbelin is one of the most quietly important jewelers in the world. The collectors who find her tend to understand immediately that they've found something rare."
