The house began as Antica Ditta Marchisio, holder of the historic “1 TO” mark — first and oldest in Torino. For over a century it produced exceptional jewellery in quiet service to some of the world’s most prestigious names, including Cartier, Tiffany, and Gucci, building a tradition of goldsmithing that remains the foundation of everything the brand makes today. In 1995, engineer Luciano Mattioli acquired the company and asked his daughter Licia — then a lawyer in Turin — to help manage it. The jewellery world gained one of its most compelling creative directors.
Licia Mattioli did not tiptoe in. She drove an entrepreneurial revolution on both the management and creative sides, opened a contemporary art gallery in Turin to nurture young Italian artists, and channelled that visual education directly into her collections. In 2000 the family placed its own name on the brand. The Puzzle collection followed — interlocking geometric forms in 18k gold with interchangeable coloured resin elements that let the wearer change the palette entirely. Then Tibet, inspired by a Himalayan maternal love legend. Then Aspis, tracing the sinuous movement of a snake in hammered rose gold. Each collection rooted in a story, each executed by over 100 master jewellers in the Torino atelier.
Licia Mattioli has since been awarded the Cavaliere del Lavoro by the President of the Italian Republic — Italy’s highest honour for achievement in industry — and became the first woman ever to hold the Presidency of both the Unione Industriale of Turin and Federorafi, the national federation of Italian jewellery companies. At Cayen, we carry Mattioli because it is that increasingly rare thing: genuine manufacturing heritage expressed through a fully contemporary creative vision.

Mattioli's interchangeable collections — particularly Puzzle and Mini Puzzle — lend themselves to personal curation. Our team loves helping clients select colour combinations, build a coordinated set across earrings, pendants, and bracelets, or find the right entry piece for someone discovering the house for the first time. Every piece is handcrafted in Torino by over 100 master jewellers.
