The Designer
Lydia Courteille was high on my radar for a long time. She is the essence of what I believe in as an artist — her medium is gold and the most incredible gemstones, and her storytelling in jewelry is phenomenal and unique. When I heard she was opening US channels, I jumped on the opportunity and set up a meeting immediately. The same day, we began carrying Lydia’s work at Cayen.
Her path began in 1979 with a broken Art Deco watch. She wandered into the antique dealers of Paris and stayed for years, earning her gemologist certification in 1985 before launching her brand in 1987 and opening her Rue Saint-Honoré boutique in 1995. Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Catherine Deneuve, Tom Ford, and Madonna quietly found their way to the door.
What Lydia Courteille makes is not quite jewellery — it is storytelling through stone. Each collection departs from a specific world: the Topkapi Palace, Norse mythology, the Silk Road. Darkness and delight coexist — memento mori alongside coquettish bows — which is precisely what makes a Courteille piece impossible to mistake. Her most recent collection, White Paradise, debuted in Paris in early 2026.
At Cayen
“Lydia produces in extremely limited quantities — many one of a kind, others in editions of two or three. No two visits to her work yield the same inventory.”
